can anyone help. i turned my laptop on and was greated with the message windows root system32 ntoskrnl exe is damaged or corrupt. I have tried using my system recovery CD and my windows xp installer cd but it seems that the disc drive wont run them. I have then inserted the cd and when asked to hit any key to boot from the cd drive nothing happens. How can I fix this problem ?

I have found a forum that advises me to type something in to fix it but I am unable to reach a screen where I can type anything in. Is my system ruined???

  1. Have you tried creating a bootable usb thumb drive with the XP source files on it? It is possible that you could boot from it and run the recovery console. Of course, you would have to create it on a different machine, but here is the link:
