I just recently networked my 2 home computers both on windows 2000 pro with 2 network cards and crossover cable. When going in to the workgroup on one computer it is fine as it sees itself and the other computer and can access its files etc. But when going to the other computer and when trying to enter the workgroup the error says "The server is not configured for transactions". Can any one please help me to allow both computers to enter the workgroup and access each others shared files?
Go to the computer that is causing you grief. Open a command prompt (Start menu | Run | "cmd" (no quotes) | Hit ok). After doing that reshare the IPC$ and see if that helps..
Thank you it work but another problem has arisen. When i click to go in to that computer in the workgroup i enter the username and password but an error says :
\\[computer name] is not accessible.
Logon Failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
I am 100% it is correct username and password and i have checked caps lock!
Can you help please?
Im almost there!!!
double check to make sure you have shares on that computer..also remember, you must have the same username/password on BOTH computers... for instance if computer 1 has uname=John pass=Johnpass then computer 2 must have the same thing...all goes with each user.
Also, make sure you are not trying to connect to \\computer\ipc$ that is an administrative share.
I have shared files on both computers and they are both the same username and password but still it wont work. Both computers log in as administrators. I am at my wits end now. I wish it would just work.
