With a 64 X2 4200 2.2GHz (non-overclockable because of mobo) and an 8800gts 320, whats a better upgrade, a new processor or a new graphics card? I asked the folks over at the gamespot forum and they told me that the processor doesn't really matter its just the graphics card if your playing games.
Gamespot guys -
"its a duo stock its fine it wouldn't bottleneck anything processors really dont bottleneck anything right now enless your running say a 4200 with a 9800GX2 or Radeon 4870X2 but besides those cards your processor really isnt bottlenecking but a E7200@ core clocks is perfect for a 9800GTX Radeon 4850 plus there highly overclockable ontop of it overclock it to 3.0GHz with a overclocked Radeon 4850 in a nice cool case you have a pretty nice system there."
"Bottleneck - This is a term that the uninformed throw around way too often. Your cpu is fast enough to not be a bottleneck to anything. It sounds like you just want an excuse for a faster processor."
Your cpu is fast enough to not be a bottleneck to anything.
^ does that sound right to you?
