for that price i gues it gives good performance....but if u chose to spend a lil more on processor (maybe a pentium dual core or a x2; coz u will need dual core) and a MB of better\newer chipset it would be nicer.
also 256mb on ur gfx will srsly limit ur performance more than u could imagine. even a 9600GSO will perform beta

why spent more on a 9600gso for about the same performance

this 8800gt 256mb is a steal

this system is enough to play every recent games even upcoming titles

Eh.. not so sure about that processor. You could get an X2 and a compatible motherboard for pretty much the same price, maybe a little bit more. You'd still be under $300.

1. You have a ECS board which I don't like cause I had 2 of their boards die o me. Also the chipset is old too.

2. I don't trust the HDD. Try and get a Samsumg, WD, Seagate.

3. The PSU is cr@p.

Imo, you would be better off with saving $300 more and building a better PC.

Ok I have two suggestions, they will up your cost a bit, but will help out your speed a lot.
Mobo: Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186116
$50 after rebate +17 over your ECS
CPU: Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116052
$70 + 20 over your celeron
For $37 more you have a rock solid mobo and CPU that you can overclock and upgrade for the future.

It sounds like you need a P3 1ghz for the gaming you want to do. What are you playing Diablo 2? Runescape? Quake 3 Arena?

Lavacon thats just rude! I admire his aptitude towards spending wisely. His computer costs less than most of the single parts in my computer, heck even my power supply was more than his computer!

Yeah its a cheap build, but it is definitely not a "gaming" pc. have fun replacing your HD,PSU and Mobo... You get what you pay for. Good luck, post some benchies for us sometime :)

Judging by you rig posted in your profile Lavacon, his new <$300 (or less then you paid for your mobo) computer will come close to matching your computer in performance (if he gets the E2180 and OCs it). But keep talking smack man.

I doubt it. It might handle some of the less intense games at a mediocre resolution, but even then it will probably be bottlenecked by the slow processor.

+1

But I would add a Seagate HD ala http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148231 for $5 more.

Puts your grand total at $300 +/- a few bucks.

Power supply may or not cut it though.

Pfft, that thing won't touch my pc. An overclocked E6600 smokes an Overclocked E2180... In fact.. most everything in my system that can be overclocked is. I'm not saying my rig is great by any means, but, its been an ongoing project that is turning out pretty decent. I have a few more upgrades to go when needed. Quad Core CPU, 2x 4870's, some water cooling, and maybe a New Hard drive.

I wasn't saying his rig was complete junk, but to say it will keep up with a regular gaming pc is crazy. I think the Mobo,CPU,PSU,CPU cooling and HD all need some reconsideration. He's not overclocking anything with a junk PSU and Stock cooler. A no name cheapo Hard drive is just scary, and the Mobo won't be able to handle much of an overclock even with a good PSU. Point is, this system will run stock or with a 10% OC. It's a good setup for basic office needs with a wee bit of gaming on the side, but it is definitely not a Budget gaming pc by any stretch of the imagination.

+1 for a basic setup. Personally, I wouldn't go by the post rebate price. Rebates take anywhere from 4-12 weeks. I bet if the upfront cost was considered with out any rebates a better system could be made for the same upfront cost.

On a side note, I just looked at the case. I would suggest getting at least 2 120 or 92mm fans since this case has none. If you are planing any sort of OC you want some Airflow in the case.

My .02.... x100...so... my 2$ or so...

lol same here, thats what I was thinking

Worse, Im considering buying a second one for a dual screen setup.

That system will probably play anything released up to about '06 well and ok res., but '07/'08 games itll be low & slow

Also the 256 MB 8800GT from what I've seen is an appaling performer, the reduced vRAM really cripples it.
