I plugged in an external hard drive into my USB. It shows up in device manager, but it does not show up in disk management so I cannot change the drive name. I know others have been able to solve the problem with disk management, but it does not show in disk management. Help! About to go nutso!!! I am using WIN XP

Remove the drive from the enclosure and hook it up directly to the computer for testing purposes. I think your enclosure is bad.

If the drive is USB power only, make sure that it is plugged into a port that is hooked directly to the motherboard.
I have found it to happen when the drive cant get enough power. Normally front USB ports are hooked up to the MB with very thin cables.
