Hi,
my system drive suddenly shows read/write rates below 4 MB/s. I didn't change any relevant settings on my system recently, except I remember there was an XP update. I dont remember what it was though. The drive seems to be physically fine. I checked it with various diagnostic tools incl. Seagate tools. I also checked it's performance from a second OS system I have installed on another drive. There it runs clearly above 70 MB/s.

DO you have any advice what I should do next? Maybe which drivers could be causing this and I should maybe reinstall.

Thanks for your help.

Phil

PIO mode; verify by running HDTune benchmark and look at CPU utilization; if its very high (100% for single core; 50% for dualcore; 25% for quadcore) and the speed graph shows a horizontal line of no more than 16MB/s... its running in PIO mode.

To reset to DMA mode, go to Device Manager and delete/uninstall the controller of your drive (not the drive itself). Reboot and it will be found again and it should run in DMA mode again.
