I am looking at doing my first build instead of going with a pre build. I have been doing alot of reading and surfing the net trying to come up with a good combo for a gaming rig. The Dell I have is 4 years old and just can't keep up.
Below is the list of components that I have selected, would valve any feed back prior to placing the order with newegg.

SILVERSTONE TJ10-BW ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard
Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 12MB L2 Cache
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Case 7, timing 7-7-7-24
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Thermaltake Toughpower W0132RU 1000W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
2 GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
DVD burners LITE-ON 20x and Pioneer 20X SATA
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb
Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB for operating system
Windows Vista 64 bit

No No No and No.

Let's see where to begin.

1) nVidia's Intel chipset motherboard are not very good. The 790i is an overpriced MESS. AVOID. DDR3 is a complete waste of money on top of that.

2) 8800GT gets smacked by the 4850. CF 4850s instead.

3) Raptors are a waste of money unless you get the VelociRaptor. Raptor X is equal speed to a 7200RPM drive now.

4) Why do you need 2 DVD burners?

5) Xigmatek coolers are superior to Zalmans

6) PSU is bigtime overkill. Corsair 750W one will be just fine. Or the PC Power and Cooling Quad 750.

What I would build instead:

Case- Fine
Motherboard- Asus X48 P5E Deluxe
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131317

CPU: Good choice

RAM: DDR2-800 Patriot makes a good set for $80ish

Paste: MX2 is superior to 5

Fan: Xigmatek Rifle 120mm

PSU: PC Power and Cooling Quad 750W

Video: 4850 CF or ONE 4870

DVD: whatever

Hard Drive: Can the Raptor- get just the one drive

OS: Fine

Shadowduck,
Thanks for the info and advice. I have been trying to figure out a really good setup for about $2500 for a while now and everytime I think I have it figure out I find a new piece of info that makes me start looking at the parts list again.
I seen alot of info, good and bad on the 790i, was just thinking trying to get the lastest and greatest. I was hoping with this board and the DDR3 that I would get additional speed.
Did not give alot of thought into the CF set up. What is the difference/advantage between SLI and CF ?
As for the PSU, I was trying to go with one that was modular to cut down on the cables that are not used and help with cable management.
You are right don't need two dvd burners, just one good one.
Did not even look at the Xigmatek, but I will now.

Thanks again

Right now ATI has the upper hand in video cards. The 48x0 series is the clear performance champion over nVidia's similar priced offerings. nVidia chipset motherboard (required for SLI) rae buggy and have lots of issues like poor overclocking, data corruption, weird issues with RAM and SATA optical drives not present on Intel chipsets.

Intel chipset are more stable, overclock better, and the best bet for a system.
