I just bought 4GB (4 sticks) Kingston HyperX DDR2 @ 1066 Mhz, but my mobo (GA-P35-DS3R) detects them as 800 MHz? My CPU is Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz (stock freq)
Any idea why I cannot use the RAM @ 1066?

Thanks

It is because your CPU is at stock. The memory speed is determined by fsb and then adjusted by a cpu:ram speed ratio (called the divider).

In order to fix this you either need to OC your cpu or raise the divider to get your mem to 1066mhz. You may also have to adjust the voltage since the default voltage is 1.8v which is usually lower than the manufacturer specs.

I raised the divider to 4 (def. = 3) but than I cannot boot into windows...
but I did forgot to change the voltage.. was on auto, but maybe I should put it on manual control...
thanks for the advice..

A lot of high clocked memory needs more voltage... try 2.1v which is probably the manufacturer's spec for that clockspeed. Also check the timings to make sure they didn't stay at the timings for 800MHz.

Indeed the voltage was the problem...
Thanks!

Currently I left the divider as it was (@3) but overclocked the CPU to 350 FSB... so my RAM now is @1050 MHz... I think now I have nice machine... ;)
