Hi,

after some days of research I came up with this system

Intel® Core™2 Duo E7200, 2.53-GHz @ 1066Mhz w/ 3Mb Cache (Socket 775) (Retail Box) w/ Heat Sink & Fan 129.99
Enermax® GalaxyDXX 850W ATX 12V Ver 2.2 Power Supply (Retail Box) 209.99
Sapphire® Radeon™ HD 4850 - Radeon™ HD 4850 VPU w/512Mb GDDR3 PCI Express x16 $189.99 189.99
Corsair™ 4Gb PC6400 XMS2 DDR2 TwinX Matched Pair Series (TWIN2X4096-6400C5) 109.99
CoolerMaster® CM690 ATX Case (Black) 79.99
Asus® P5K-E/WiFi-AP, Socket 775, Intel® P35 Chipset w/ PCI Express x 169.99
500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATAII-300 7200RPM 32Mb OEM 79.99

Total: 969.93 at pccanada.com

I am not sure about the monitor but I would buy a 24inch. Any recommendation?

I am not sure about the case and the MB.

I need Wifi and I am not sure if I should go with an onboard solution, PCI or USB one.

I do plan to buy another 4850 in the next year if necessary. Overclocking maybe in 2 years with some extra fans

PS: I am not a gamer but I do like a good system and I would like to play the new Diablo and the new Starcraft as well as some good racing games.

Thank you

Solid system.

You could go for a PC Power and cooling Sinlencer 750w PSU, save yourself $50-70 and still have plenty of juice for dual 4850's

+1 on psu change
use that money to up your cpu
hdd - wd 640gb is only $5 more. well worth it.
if you add another gpu isn't in on x4 for the p35? you can get the p5q p45 board for about the same price and that would be x8 for the 2nd card.

I think you are right. I'm going to look for a P45 board

I am not sure about PC Power. But I'll have a look

pc power and cooling is one of the best brands of psus that you can get. top of the line. corsair also makes an excellent 750w psu.

the p5q is a great p45 board.

cpu - well you said you want it for cad. i think first you need to figure out with the psu and mobo changet how much $$ you have for the cpu. it would be great if you could get the q6600 but i think it might be too much. that quad would be great for CAD and it is a good overclocker.

I read somewhere that the 7200 overclocks better than q6600 which is 70CAD more. Off-course q6600 is better but will 4 cores be of any help at this point in time?
I guess in the next 2 years there will be more applications that will take advantage of the 4 cores.

^No. Quad won't help much with a gaming system (except for FSX and a few others). For CAD (ie SolidWorks, I use it btw) it will help quite a bit. (btw, do you mean Canadian $ or Computer-aided design? By looking at your prices I'm assuming you are Canadian? If you are US you CAN find better stuff for smiler price)

My recommendations:

Unless you plan to CrossFire or upgrade to a 4870X2 a PC Power & Cooling 610 is a good choice. The Enermax (see: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088 )is a top brand PSU but kind of too much money.

Getting a P45 would also help. +1 for the WD AAKS 640GB also.

Place any money saved into this dual core, Dont get a quad for your gaming rig.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Dual Core Processor LGA775 3.16GHZ Wolfdale 1333FSB 6MB

isn't it to much?
70 CAD difference

I would prefer to do some overclocking in the future.

And taxes are not cheap in canada :)

I am Canadian too, Edmonton :) Where are you? lol taxes in EDM are only %5
1) move to Alberta for lower taxes
2) get job on the rigs makin 80k starting
3) buy a QX processor hehe

Toronto, where else? :)

If I order from ncix it's only 5%. From pccanada it's much more but they are cheaper.

I haven't decided yet but I guess I'll buy from ncix.
