Hi
I hope someone can help me with my problem. I'm borrowing an Apple 30" Cinema HD display but I'm having trouble getting the screen resolution higher than 1280x800 on my Asus EAX850XT . I can set it for 2048x1536 but then it only enlarges the workspace, not the actual screens resolution.

I have tried with WinACD 0.4.6 but that only gives me the name of the display on the device list and an extra tab in the advanced settings window.

I'm running WinXP with the latest updates.

I would really like a higher resolution, the icons and text are humongous atm.

Any help will be appreciated.

Make sure you are using a dual link DVI cable.

This is what the cable should look like (dual link):

If it looks like this, you have a single link DVI (which can't support full resolution):

Thanks for your answer.
The display comes with a cable which looks like the dual link cable. Besides, I've seen the display run at full resolution on another computer, so the cables should be just fine.
Any other suggestions?

Ok, but what are the specs of that other computer? Unless it is the same as your computer, then it's pointless to compare the two...

Does anyone here know if the x850 even supports dual link DVI at that resolution?

That explains it. It doesn't support above 2048*1536.

See here

Looks like you need a new graphics card.

It won't go above 1280*800 at any rate, it seems. Dang it. Oh well, good thing I'm only borrowing it. Thanks for the help, all!

The 1280x800 is because the monitor doesn't have a built in scaler (many 30" monitors don't). Your card supports up to 2048*1536.

Ok, so what if I wanted to make full use of the monitor, what graphics card would I need (cheapest solution)?

Would you need the power for any games?
If not, this would do it.

I would like to be able to play some games, but since the rest of the system is pretty old (top of the line in oct05) it seems pointless. Thanks for the advice!
