Simple question:

I bought a Gigabyte EP45-DS3L motherboard and an E8500 CPU.

The motherboard does not support that CPU (or any wolfdale) without updating the bios first, so how did all you people update it ?

Thanks in advance

I have a cheap skt 775 celeron that I use for Bios updates, when a board won't post with a CPU without a Bios update. It's just handy to have around.

$40 gets you up and running.
Or you can beg, barrow, a cpu, or take it to a computer shop.

No this cant be true, the board comes with bios version F3 but all CPUs need F4 according to gigabytes homepage.

I know alot of people bought that mother board and a c2d cpu so i doubt it really needs a bios update, allthough gigabyte says so.

Can anyone confirm?

What is the stepping of your E8500?

Your MB should have at least F4 Bios. It supports Wolfdale right out of the box. No Bios upgrade needed unless you have the latest CPU stepping.

Most mobos will let you update via usb stick, just for future reference.

Ok thanks for the answers, i think youre right about the F4 standard bios. Someone just told me it was F3 out of the box so i got a bit nervous :P
