Hi there, I am new to the forum. I am not having problem with an existing CPU, but rather a new CPU, namely Xeon X3360 (2.83@1333/45nm/Yorkfield). I drop the CPU in then the system just won't boot and says "CPU INIT". No matter how I reset it or remove the battery, etc. it just doesn't work. I make sure that I have checked everything (RAM, video card) by using spare parts. I drop my old Q6600 back to the system then it works perfect. I was thinking a DOA CPU but then I drop it into a P5E-VM HDMIand it boots without problem (detected Xeon X3360@2.83GHz) and POST everytime I restart.
To give a more specific information, there's how the systems are configured:
1. Maximus Formula
BIOS version 1207
Kingston DDR-1066/CL5/2GBx2
Thermaltake 750W PSU + 450W Booster
2x ATI Radeon HD 4870
and whatever HDD, BD-ROM, DVD-RW
2. P5E-VM HDMI
BIOS version 0702 (I think)
Kingston DDR-800/CL4/1GBx2 (used to test with the system above, was no POST either)
G35 onboard video
nothing else connected
I am very sure that none of the component is bad. Do any of you have any idea?
I also tried updating BIOS to RF still don't work. All the CPU/MEM/NB LED are lited up(red/yellow/green together). The CPU INIT string is on right after I connect power without even turning on. The system will power up for 5 seconds then turn off and restart with CPU INIT string steady.

Hey mate yours sounds like a tricky one, but here are a few ideas to get the thread started ;-)
Just looking at the information that you have supplied, even though you have removed your battery, some makes of the Maximus or Striker series require atleast 2-3 hours (without the battery in it) to completely reset your BIOS settings. Why this is, I don't know - because that just doesn't make sense lol!
But anyways, and I am only having a stab in the dark here, maybe your BIOS settings didn't return to default settings upon CLR CMOS, and your OC settings (I'm guessing you OC'd your Q6600?) have remained the same.
This would explain why your old CPU is still working fine, and also why you are getting the CPU INIT error.
So I guess, follow the steps I left earlier in the forum for the CPU INIT error, including the lengthy process of leaving your machine switched off, and see how that goes.
You have flashed to the latest BIOS so that rules out the possibility of RAM/CPU incompatability.
I would say that I did not OC the Q6600. I basically left the FSB to 266, RAM to 1066 and 2.2V. That's it. If the X3360 does not run at 266MHz, well....
Not sure, that's what I was getting at but if BIOS has failed to clear - maybe it is still only recognising the 9x multiplier? I know that AUTO will generally use the lowest clock multiplier that the motherbaord offers if it does not recognise the CPU, but the latest Flash for the Maximus series mobo has better compatability with the Xeon series. Anyone else got any ideas, because this one's got me baffled?
