new machine gaming < $1000

Hi all,

my current P4 machine is 6 years old, its welcome has been ended.

My need: i want to build a new machine that is under $1000 and can be use for a bit gaming and that can last me another 6 years or so. I dont know much about computer components but I am sure to get a quadcore (q6600) and radeon hd 4850 graphic card. I dont know much about overclocking but am open for it (if it is easy). Here's wat I got so far for my components I still need advices for others.

Processor: Intel® Boxed Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 $190

Video: ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB ($200 -$30rebate)

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB $85

Memory: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) $90 - $20rebate


OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB)

DVD: LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R $30

Motherboard: _________Please suggest, how about
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard


ASUS P5Q-E LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Case: _____Please suggest, i was looking at rc690 but i dont like the usb port on top, but am looking for that $80 price range

PSU _____ Please suggest, i see a lot of ppl get corsair 650tx or corsair 750tx, which one fit my need?

am i missing anything else?

  1. Do you plan to Crossfire at any point? If so don't buy either of those boards. Buy x48 board.

    RAM: Neither, buy this RAM:

    PSU- 550VX if no Crossfire, 750tx otherwse.

    Case- up to you.

    Get the WD 640GB drive instead. It is faster.

    question though. is munskin memory good? the name sounds wierd.

    I dont plan to crossfire at all, so i guess the board above is ok?

    now am really debating between antec 900 and rc690. antec 900 seems like a nice case with the lights and stuff, but am afraid that it will be a dust collector. anyone has experience with the antec 900 or rc690 please share

  4. Mushkin is some of the best memory you can buy. Solid high quality RAM.

    No CF- that motherboard is fine.
