I have 15 days left on my step up offer and Im trying to decide which would be the best bang for the buck.

It will cost me $118 to go from my 8800GT to the GTX 260

It will cost me $18 to go from my 8800GT to the 9800GTX+

Is the GTX 260 worth the extra 100 bucks?

Just go for the singer sewing machine for 150.00!
You'll be sewing circles around both those cards:D

Truthfully, I'ld go with the GTX260 it'll give you the best performance for the next 2 years! The 9800gtx+ isn't much of a gain over the 8800. Then agian you could just get a second 8800 and not worry about either of those cards cause you'll leave them in the dust!

Not a fan boy i have bought equal ammounts of nvidia and Ati cards,

but i replaced my 2 7900gtx's for one 4870 and im well pleased with it!
for a jump of $120 or $118 i would go Ati for this round.

and hopfully Nvidia will get back it's game in a generation or two.

I think some people doesn't understand the statement of Ovaltine. The 4870 is an investment of 118 + 120$. There's noway to do a trade up to the 4870...

To the op what's your budget? That's the question. The 260 will last longer than the 9800 and offer more gain over the 8800

If you can afford it, get the GTX260. Great card. I would prefer the 4870, but it isn't an option for you and the GTX260 is only a few percent slower.

I can afford trading up to the GTX 260 but like I said, is it truly worth the extra 118 bucks? =/ whereas i can get the 9800 GTX+ for only 18 bucks more.

And regarding the 4870, i cant trade up to that, so thats out of the question

I'd go for the 9800GTX+. Its only $18 and then you can wait a while for the prices to drop on all the cards as the X2 comes out and pick up a much better deal.

As of RIGHT NOW, I'd rate your options as follows, in order from best to worst:

■Step-up to a 9800GTX.
■Step-up to a 9800GTX, sell it as new, get a Radeon HD 4800 series card.
■Sell your current card and get a Radeon HD 4800 series card.
■Get no new graphics card, and spend the money to buy a dog to protect yourself from hackers.
■Step up to a GTX 260, spending a lot of money.

For $18 I would eat up the 9800GTX+

I know that a GTX260 would provide better performance (and probably better longevity), but there's no reason to make a jump that big for $118 when you can take another baby step for $18. Not only is it a safe middle ground, but when you're ready to buy a 260 (or maybe even 280), the price will have dropped significantly. During that time, you could also choose to bi or tri-SLI your 9800GTX+, which will have also come down in price significantly.

Price to performance: the 260 would have to be almost 5 times better than the 9800GTX+ for you, since you would be spending almost 5 times as much to get it. For that reason alone, you could argue for the 9800GTX+

Hope that helps!

I was actually in the same position as you i had both the 9800gtx+ and the gtx260. I returned the 9800gtx+ because i couldnt run far cry 2 at full settings smoothly and Grand theft auto wouldnt let me put it at high. Now i have the gtx260 and far cry 2 runs alot smoother but GTA4 still wont let me run at high sooo im returning this and getting the GTX285 in a few days im waiting for them to ship it.
