Just go for the singer sewing machine for 150.00!
You'll be sewing circles around both those cards
Truthfully, I'ld go with the GTX260 it'll give you the best performance for the next 2 years! The 9800gtx+ isn't much of a gain over the 8800. Then agian you could just get a second 8800 and not worry about either of those cards cause you'll leave them in the dust!

I think some people doesn't understand the statement of Ovaltine. The 4870 is an investment of 118 + 120$. There's noway to do a trade up to the 4870...
To the op what's your budget? That's the question. The 260 will last longer than the 9800 and offer more gain over the 8800
I can afford trading up to the GTX 260 but like I said, is it truly worth the extra 118 bucks? =/ whereas i can get the 9800 GTX+ for only 18 bucks more.
And regarding the 4870, i cant trade up to that, so thats out of the question
Anywho for $18 it's worth the GTX, for $118 I don't know if the GTX 260's worth it.
I'd take that $100 and put it towards something else.

I'd go for the 9800GTX+. Its only $18 and then you can wait a while for the prices to drop on all the cards as the X2 comes out and pick up a much better deal.

I know that a GTX260 would provide better performance (and probably better longevity), but there's no reason to make a jump that big for $118 when you can take another baby step for $18. Not only is it a safe middle ground, but when you're ready to buy a 260 (or maybe even 280), the price will have dropped significantly. During that time, you could also choose to bi or tri-SLI your 9800GTX+, which will have also come down in price significantly.
Price to performance: the 260 would have to be almost 5 times better than the 9800GTX+ for you, since you would be spending almost 5 times as much to get it. For that reason alone, you could argue for the 9800GTX+
I was actually in the same position as you i had both the 9800gtx+ and the gtx260. I returned the 9800gtx+ because i couldnt run far cry 2 at full settings smoothly and Grand theft auto wouldnt let me put it at high. Now i have the gtx260 and far cry 2 runs alot smoother but GTA4 still wont let me run at high sooo im returning this and getting the GTX285 in a few days im waiting for them to ship it.
if you upgrade ur 8800 to 9800+ or something the maximum gain sint gonna go over than 25 % while the GTX 260 gives you a minimum of 80% gain depeding on the rest of ur rig
