I bought this brand new Q6600, installed it on an Intel DG31PR, 4 gigs of DDR2 800 Vista Home Premium and an 8600GT 1GB.
Problem is, when I go to CPU-Z it says my processor is running at 1600MHz - 6 x 266.7 But isn't the Q6600 supposed to be running at 2.4 GHz at stock?

But the system information says it's running at 2.39 GHz. So confusing..!!!
Also, is it possible to overclock using the DG31PR?

There is a sticky on this.

And I use speedstep on my 3.2ghz OC. It just takes more time to tune in the voltage to make it run more stable.

SpeedStep main advantage is to cut down on heat.

The reason a 2.4 GHz processor would be running at 2.39 is usually caused by the motherboard. The actual fsb of all motherboards is variable by a few MHz. yours happens to be just barely lower than others and windows rounded down. mine runs a few MHz faster, no big deal. Run CPU-Z and see what it says your actual running speed is, then overclock if your bios allows it.

woo hoo w/ the 300th speed step thread :D

w/e when your new you just want your answer right away and don't take the time to search... :)

Not so fast, budy, not so fast! I am a very "old" Techie and I have been building pc;s since "Intel 286". I had an e6400 for more than 1year and I have had it running at 3-3.2 Ghz constantly without even close to the thermal upper-limits and very stable. Before I bought the G0 Q6600 I have been reading hundreds of "reviews" from all kind ofso called happy reviewers. I have a GA-EP35-DS3R, 2Gb of OCZ RAM and a 8600 GTS oc'd @ 750 Mhz. I just replaced the processor.and.... what a desilusion. Q6600 is one of the whorse overclockers among Intel cpu's. To keep it stable at more than 2.8 Ghz, you have to rise the vcore voltage somewhere arround 1.35v and this will make cpu to be VERY HOT! You can't even think to use PRIME95' or run Cinebench10 for more than few seconds before the temp alarm will cry (alarm set @ 70 C the max Tj spec by Intel for proper functionality). So, at stock speed it is OK but is acting whorse than my old e6400 playing Crisys at mainstream settings. And something else, I wasn't be able to see the evidence of the so-called multi-tasking due to multicore architecture. I didn't rip-off DVD's yet but In my opinion this is another soap-balloon at least for the average consumer.
