I'll vouch for the FreeAgent series. I've had a 1TB drive for a year and a half now without any issue.

Don't get the Seagate FreeAgent Desk versions. I have had a 1TB and a 500GB version fail on me. Each one lasted about 5 months. If you accidently knock the external harddrive for just a second while it is on, it will make a grinding noise and not work anymore. The FreeAgent Desk is very sensitive. Also, the firmware on some Seagate FreeAgent Desk versions are not stable, the 500GB version would not go into idle; it would heat up and run nonstop. I had to unplug it and plug it back in every few days to keep it cool. I'm using the newest Seagate Manager software. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148356

I would recommend getting a Western Digital MyBook external harddrive. They are more reliable and wouldn't die if you accidently knock it over.
