hey guys ... in cpuz it says my e8400 runs at 2003 mhz then bumps up to 3 ghz every so often?? shouldent it be at 3 ghz all the time? is this speedstepping?

also (this is a new build btw) the ram i bought is 4-4-4-12.....but my mobo put it to 5-5-5-15...should i leave that or change it to 44412? thx in advance guys

Yeah that's EIST in action. It clocks down and undervolts when idle to save power and reduce heat output then reverts whenever there's sufficient load. You can select the always on or home/desktop power profile and it will stop or you can completely disable it in the bios.

NEVER run RAM at auto settings. Get in that bios and set the timings and voltage manually.

mobo's have a habit of doing that to RAM
your CPU is fine, speedstep is all it is. But really, 3? that sounds one whole number too low for my tastes.

Same as VID then start lowering it while testing with P95/intelburnin/occt to find the lowest stable voltage (if desired).

Ive left Speedstep on , both e7200 OCed to 3.2 and E6600 at 3.2. Fundly enough the E6600 actually idles at 2.4 (its stock speed) when speedstep is working :S

3.5 would fry they **** like an egg
