Hi, I recently purchased the new Kingston 40gb SSD for my boot drive. I wanted the version that came with the software to clone my OS from my 500gb hard disk, but that wasn't the one on newegg. I got it for $85 after MIR.

Is there any free software to do this? Do I only need software? I have an external hard drive as well.

Take a look at WD's version of Acronis True Image:

You should also reduce the size of your C: partition
if it spans that entire 500GB HDD: as a general rule
a drive image cannot fit into a target partition
if the source partition was larger.

The target partition must be equal to or
greater than the size of the source partition.

Avanquest's Partition Commander worked the first
time for us, last weekend: we had to reduce a
250GB C: partition down to 30 GB on a used XP machine
we purchased for teaching, and it worked perfectly.

I checked out that site, it doesn't list windows 7 on its supported OS's.
