Right, my current PC (2 years old) is a little like...

P4 631 (3.0GHz 65nm)
Asus P5W dlx
Corsair XMS2 2 GB DDR2 800
ATI x1950 pro 256MB
2 x 500GB Seagate HDD, RAID 0
XP Pro SP3 (no Vista thnx!!)

My PC does everything I need right now - WoW runs just fine... But I have a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket, and I can get a Q6600 for £103 (UK) inc tax and delivery or a E8400 for £101 (UK) inc tax and delivery... I expect I will keep this PC until 2013 - ie another 5 years.

Come on someone - convince me to spend me cash!!

If you game and you dont wanna OC go E8400.

If you run alot of other programs and/or wanna oc go Q6600.

But why spend cash when your pc runs everything you use fine ?

I think you should wait until theres some game or program you cant play anymore, and then buy some more expensive parts, because those 2 proccessors wont run anything fine in 5 years.

E8400 rules for gaming and today. By the time you'd need a quad the 45nm wolfdales will be much cheaper and have better steppings.

Maybe get an e2180. Take the rest of the money and save or invest it for another year or so until the new tech comes out and prices settle. If you spend it all now, you'll be gnashing your teeth in a few months over what you could have had if only you'd waited.

If you plan on keeping the PC for 5 years, keep the cash until somewhere next year and get a Nehalem (or whatever AMD will throw against it).

Bah - you lot are no fun :p

I went and ordered a Q6600 anyway - will slap the clock to 3GHz and be done with it... Nehalem requires to much new stuff for too little an improvement tbh....
