I'm running a HP a1730n (motherboard is A8M2N-LA). I'm running the default configuration, except I've upgaded the video card to 8600GT (like a year ago). I'm still needing a little boost in performance, so I'm going to upgrade my RAM. I'm a computer upgrading n00bie and need some help.
Will this upgrade work? My PC can support 2GB more of RAM, there are enough memory banks, and it is 240-pin and DDR2 SDRAM as well. I'm just confused about the Cas Latency, Voltage, and Timing specifications. Does my motherboard match them?
P.S. I'm a cheap guy, and I want to make the purchase before September 30, so I can get a $20 rebate. If you guys can respond quickly, I'll be more than happy!!!
Yes, that RAM should work.
It will underclock to the speed and timings of your current RAM but it will run just fine.
What do you need a boost in performance with?
If you are trying to get better performance gaming, you would probably be better off getting a newer GPU like one of These 4670's.

Yeah, looking for performance in gaming. I'm going to pass on your GPU suggestion, however I will consider them when I build another PC sometime in the future.
More questions..... 1) you say that it will underclock to the speed and timings of my current RAM, will that have any other negative effect other than it won't be used to its full potential? (tryin' to be safe)
2) Are you sure about the voltage compatibility? I don't know whether ifthe RAM sticks are 1.8v or 2.1v, nor do I know my motherboard's voltage.
EDIT: Been solved, ordered the RAM sticks. Thanks!
