More Information

I am new to building computers. I need some guidance. I need a computer for my small business and the small form factor appeals to me greatly. Currently, I am looking to buy an HP Slimline s3500f or build a Shuttle XPC barebones. I want something quiet at my desk. I have been using a laptop for the last few years and the fan noise is irksome.

My main uses are firefox (with lots of windows open), openoffice, and itunes. I run most of my business from online applications. I also use a 22" Acer monitor with 1680x1050 resolution.

On the HP Slimline s3500f side...Do these run cool and quiet? Are they a good value? How do they stack up to the Shuttle listed below?

Shuttle XPC Build...How much processing power do I need? And is 4GB of RAM overkill? This is what I came up with so far:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail - $189.99

(2 sticks) G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5S-2GBPQ - $85.98

HITACHI Deskstar P7K500 HDP725050GLA360 (0A35415) 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $79.99

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS120-04 - $26.99

Shuttle SG31G2 Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel Core 2 Quad / Core 2 Duo / Dual-Core / Celeron 400 serial support Intel G31 Barebone - $224.99

Subtotal: $607.94

Thanks for your help!
