Alright fellas, I'm about to embark on my first build and I saw that Intel claims 450 grams is the heaviest
heatsink recommended for socket 775. I just bought one weighing in at 750.

I'm planning on basically being careful when moving the computer around, but anyone ever had problems with a heavier heatsink like this?

Never had a problem. Just make sure it's secured properly. HSF shouldn't move at all when installed right.

Don't go using the computer as a soccerball and you'll be fine.

I just don't understand why intel would say such things. There are coolers everywhere that are heavier than that and are used in systems all over!

I have one (the xigmatek s128) that is around 600g and it works just fine. No probs.

Plus, im sure that if there were breaking of mobos due to heavy coolers, we'd hear about it more often on the forumz here. I haven't heard of anyone having a cooler too heavy for their system when I think about it.

I also use the massive Xigmatek s128 ... I added a backplate to support the extra weight.

Thanks all! Probably shoulda asked this before I'd already bought the thing, but we're all still learning, right?
