Any ideas how I might restore a dead flash drive? I reinstalled my motherboard but I followed the Motherboard manual and reversed my USB connectors in error as the actual USB pins were the opposite direction to the manual. The USB drive is no longer recognised by WINXP or even Win7 even though the USB is now connected correctly.

Try connecting the flash drive to another computer to see if it works. If not, then chances are the flash drive is dead. If the flash drive works in another computer, then it is a problem with the USB port itself. To determine if it's the USB port, connect other USB devices to it and see if the computer recognizes them properly.

hi there. done all of that. Really wondered if there was anyway to get at the drive. I saw somewhere to try CMD mode and reformat it but no system appears to be able to see it (although win7 found it "once" but said there was a problem!)
