More Information

Hi,

I have the following configuration for a new system, and since I have little experience, I would like to get some comments and suggestions. Also, I am not really sure about what power supply I'd need:

PC Chassis: Antec NSK6580-EC or Sonata Designer 500-EC
Motherboard: MSI - P45 Diamond
CPU: (Quad-Core)Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz 1333FSB 12MB L2 Cache 64-bit
CPU-Cooler: Thermaltake BigTyp VP
RAM: Corsair TW3X4G2000C9DF (total of 4GB) @1600
RAID Controller: 3ware 9650SE RAID (8 ports)
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO 1GB

I already have the hard disks (4), and would use the audio features of the motherboard (so, no additional audio card).

What do you think?

Many thanks.
Mike

Something between 400w and 500w would be good.

Any of these would be fine but look around because you can usually find PSU's cheaper elsewhere than Newegg

What are you going to be doing with this system?

The base system is used for programming, but I also need to run at least 2 virtual machines while working.

Are you going to be doing any sort of gaming on it?

From time to time, but it is not the main purpose of this new system. I just want a performing machine that can last a couple (or more) years and that will not need components' upgrades in the future (at least for disk space or RAM upgrade, if really necessary).

sorry, should have been
........ in the future (except of disks or RAM upgrade, if really necessary

If you can fit in your budget, an ATI 4850 would smoke the card you have. You easily save the money by downgrading to a Q9450--You should do that in the first place. The speed/price difference, is extremely unjustified.

I'd replace the cooler with a Thermalright Ultra 120, with a silent fan.

I'd add an PC Power and Cooling 610w Silencer for the PSU.

Great, thank.

Just one additional question: where can I find a silent fan for the Thermalright Ultra120? I checked the product, but cannot see any fan that comes with it. I presume it is an additional product (?). Any suggestion for it?

Thanks a lot!

The Fluid Dynamic Bearing in these fans keep them damn quiet.

I haven't seen newegg keep any Thermalright products in stock for ages, but that heatsink is easy enough to find.
