Hi, my computer recently gave out and im looking at repalcing it. i cant decide if i should a q9650 yorkfield(3ghz) for about $550 or get the 2.93 i7 bloomfield when it releases for a similar price. i know that i7 will be more efficient, so it should outperform the q9650 at those speeds. but that little performance difference dosnt matter to me.
My BIGGEST worry is motherboards. i know that some new mobos have some bugs and kinks that the manufacturers have to work out.(this is based off alot of personal experience and tons or horror stories) I dont plan to overclock at all, just games, movies, and web browsing. if i do get a i7 it will be as soon as they release. so do you think i should take the risk and wait to get a i7 and a new mobo, or a yorkfield with a mobo that has a good reputation?? thanks and i look forward to hearing from you
Most mobo kinks are usually BIOS related and will be fixed with updates for the BIOS.
If I had a choice and had money I would probably wait and just buy the Core i7 system as that will also probably allow for future CPU upgrades a bit easier (since the MC is now on the CPU) you may be able to upgrade to Westmere (the 32nm die shrink of Nehalem) and not have to buy a new mobo or RAM.
