Overclocking Question

I was just given a P4 chip from a friend, I think its the 2Ghz model, 400Mhz FSB. He tells me he had the chip from the 2000's and has been running it since, but his motherboard died and I have a S478 mobo so why not give it a try?

I've overclocked it 2.5Ghz, if I keep it at this speed how long will the chip last? (stock voltage)

My old work computer had a 2.0 GHz P4 Celeron in a minimal spec motherboard. My company gave us laptops and said they were no longer going to support the desktop computers. About the only overclocking choice I had was to raise the FSB from 100 MHz. to 133 MHz. (2.0 GHz to 2.66 GHz). Ran fine for about two years until I pulled it out of service.

Keep an eye on temperature. Anything less than 55ºC and you're safe from excessive long-term damage.

Just depends on the sample and the voltage your using. Netburst was designed to for high clock speeds so you could probably push it higher, just watch your temps.

Its stock voltage 1.4,1.50V. The motherboard I have doesn't allow voltage control.

I think the world record for Netburst was about 8.2GHz - some Italian outfit with LN2.
