Does overclocking really make your pc go faster?

Hey guys... I was wondering if overclocking actually makes your pc run faster or does it allow more programs to rune like the concept or ram.
ram=Files only use so much so putting 8gb would be a waste until a program used that much.
So the question is would overclocking make a game run faster or would it run the same?

Does a game use all of the speed of a processor or just what the game need/recommends?

Thanks

I have a question, I dont know if you can answer it but here it is: is there going to be anything different with a directx 11 video card. If i get one will I need a new motherboard?

You will not need a new mobo but they will probably be a little faster (as new video cards usually are) and they will support the new tech. wich will "future proof" your system.
