Will a Nehalem mobo support a Penryn processor. I dont want to be price gouged but I have been reading about Nehalem for a while...no fsb ect and 20-30% more effiecient than Penryn? Allthough time will tell if that's true. I, dying to find out how Nehalem will perform with games.

Im contimplating on buying a Penryn (E8600 or Q9550) when the price drops when Nehalem starts showing up in the market and getting a Nehalem mobo to eventually go to Nehalem processor. Has anyone heard if the x58 (Nehalem) mobos will support Penryn processors? I figure to go to Nehalem eventually because that will be my last build for a while (pitter-patter of little feet soon!!!)

No it won't, it's a new socket.

Penryn is LGA775
Nehalem is LGA1366

So no, they are completely different.

There is no backward compatibility.

Nehalem and the X58 are a new platform, not an upgrade.
