Hello everyone. i will really appreciate if someone could please help me.

I have a desktop Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, 512 mb ram. ati agp, ECS Elite 661 Fx Chipset

I think i have messed up something with my desktop. i was thinking of upgrading my ram, but i didn't knew what kind of ram i have got. so i manually took out the ram to see its description. It was 512MB 333Mhz PC2700 unbuffered ram. When i put the ram back and turned my pc on, i smelled something like rotten egg from my cpu for couple of mint i unplugged my pc quickly and tried to seat the ram properly. but then beeps sound started.

I have two vga outputs since i have agp card. so i plugged it out, i replaced the ram which was also fully compatible didn't work. i unplugged everthing like cd, hhd, floppy but dint work. i cleared cmos through jumper as well as tried to remove the little battery inside the cpu but invain. finally when i took the intel p4 processer out and turned on the desktiop, there was no beeps it kep quite, i thnk i have either messed up my memory slots both of them are not working or its cpu. please help

i will really appreciate the replies thx.

Hi what kind of beeps do you get from the PC when the CPU and memory is plugged in? Long ones and short ones? Inspect the motherboard and other components for any burn marks.

If you hear beep codes, you are more or less ok to be sure that your CPU is OK

it is very likely to do with your RAM, maybe you didn't sit the RAM right at the start, and have damaged the RAM (the smell), and after that the system detects no RAM it starts to beep

the beep codes sometimes relates to undetected graphics card.

Try reset your BIOS, connect your screen to your on-board graphics port, and see if any luck.

Hello guys first of all thanks for you kind reply. i went to two different pc technician today one of them told me the beeps sound has to do something with the mother board so while he was inspecting the motherboard he took out the cpu and told me the cpu is bad as well because some pins were bent. he tried to replace the cpu but same problem, so he told me both the motherboard and cpu are malfunctioning.

I took the pc to another technician he tried to replace the ram as well as connected the vga to the on board video card but same problem . he did not said that the cpu is bad because he never inspected it. However, he told me most probably its the motherboard.

So i came back and talked to one of the intel csr they agreed to send me a replacement of the prosseccer. So now i think i am going to have a new mother board. what you guys think? is it cpu or motherboard? or both. if the cpu is ok will intel replace or return my proccesser .. thx in advance

btw yes it is continues beeps sounds after 1 second interval.

lol!

both the cpu and mobo?

cpu;s rarely die - yours should last 10 years or so

mobo and cpu rarely die together

and beeps can be mobo if the bios is messed up or other

the pins bent - did it work fine before he bent the pins?

ok at this point get your hard drive let him keep the cpu parts and buy a used one on ebay that is faster for less money then the repair cost

really that does not sould right
