I tried to do a back-up for my laptop an a 4GB flash drive. It said there was not enough room or space on the flash drive. What do I need to do this successfully.

Get a drive large enough to hold the amount of space required for the backup.
This will depend on the sort of backup, just documents and photos or everything on your drive.
Music and video can use up a lot of hard drive space, on a 4 GB drive about 1200 mp3's or about 2 hours or less of video, or roughly 1 SD movie.
If you want an image of the drive, an external usb hard drive may be needed.
Check the properties of your c: drive and find how much space is used, to get an idea of how much space you may need.
