Folks,

Im new here and was just wondering if you could offer me some advie on next steps..

I have built my first pc

antec 1200 case
intel 920 core i7 2.67gz
corsair 3 x 2gz ddr3
prolimatech megahalems heatsink
2 x scythe kaze jyuni 1900rpm 120mm fans push pull system
asus p6t deluxe motherboard
bfg tech gtx 260 896mb gddr3
corsair 760 psu

with no voltage changes other than mem to 1.60 v (cpu 1.22) i have overclocked with no stability issues to 4Gz.. idle temps are 41oC but hit 69 -70oc during prim95.

I wondering if i can push this any harder.. as i dont want to change my cooling , my mem is at 888 24 t1 600Mhz 1200...the next jump at this cpu speed is 1800 way past 1600... but the volts are still low on cpu and no instability at all...only temps are on limit . could i lower cpu v to lower temp assuming stability

all sugestions welcolme

Thanks

No you aren't really going to be able to lower the voltage any more. It's only up from there for temps and voltages without more serious cooling.

cool thanks... based on the temps now being at 70 i guess this is a good safe overclock i have and pushing above 70 wouldnt show worthwile benefits...

is it possible to push mem speed to 1800 maybe with a little more volts and keep at 888 24 or is this likely to blow the mem if i push past 16000 ?

thanks

your not going to "blow" your memory if it goes to fast but it will become unstable Thus requiring more voltage and remember, YOU SHOULDNT GO ABOVE 1.65v WITH THE i7!!!

Pushing the memory past its specs really isn't worth it, especially when those specs are 1600. The only performance benefit you will see is in synthetic memory benchmarks.

^ yes, but he is saying to achieve a higher base clock it would require him to have a higher memory speed than spec.

But without better cooling ...

thanks guys for the feedback, im quite happy at 4Gz and i dont think i can go higher..70oc fore core 0 is plenty hot enough.. let me know if you think otherwise...but in all pretty pleased with no voltage jumps at this speed... thanks :)

At the very least, improve the airflow inside your case. That 70ºC really worries me.

i dont think i can ..with the antec 1200 all fans on full and all cables etc out of the way airflow is as good as i can get it...

70oC is only on prim95 100% load it normally runs at 40 or so and only ever gets to about 50 during day to day activities.. i cant see currently that ill ever hit 100% load in a non test environment.. if it was at 70 all day id be looking at other cooling options or taking OC down...cheers :)

^ those are fine temps for an i7....

check out my i7 OC guide

50ºC under normal use is okay.
