I'm looking for a difference in performance between AMD 6000+ & Intel e8400 on a Xfire hd4850 system.

So far for the Intel system I was looking at the Asus P5Q Pro
The Intel CPU MB combo would cost roughly £200

The AMD combo would cost about £120-140
Not sure what MB for the AMD system though.

I'll be getting the 2nd GPU later on.
I'm also on a tight budget (student :p)

So any ideas on the difference in performance here, and is it really worth the extra £60-80
And any recommendations on a AMD xfire board?
Links to other threads or charts would be awesome.

Thanks

+1

had a 5000+ black edition OC'd to 6000 speeds, in UT3 while in a heavy firefight or large map, fps dips to like 30

same map, same heavy firefights with teh e8400 (@ stock 3ghz) stays at 50
with OC @ 3.8, stays at around 60

and this was with two diff gfx cards

so yes the cpu isnt just the gfx card's b**tch, it runs the show here :)

i think you should buy phenom x3 8750 black edition and oc it to 3,4 ghz(it's priced @ $134) + amd 790fx with sb 750

Although I reckon the bottle-necking for my SLi'd GTXs is negligible with my 6000+.
In 3DMark perhaps, but certainly not in the real world. :)

this is totally false, I had an x2 6000+ that out performed my 9600BE phenom all day long. clock for clock the x2 6000+ wins esp with the slight overclock to 3.2ghz. When I went to phenom i also had a 790fx board also. overall I lost 1000pts in 3dmark06. May games played like crap on the phenom, and on the x2 it was much better, signifcantly higher FPS.

the sb750 is nice, but id like to see facts before you say you can bump it to 3 or 4ghz. I call BS on this.

Exactly, I would suggest the x38 or x48. I have an x48 with 2 pcie 2.0 slots at full 16x bandwidth. You will be happy and for processor go with the e8400 or the q6600. you wont be disappointed. that's a guarantee.
