My first post, I'm new to system building and computer hardware in general. I'm putting together a new gaming PC with a ~$1300 budget. I've been picking these parts based off of reviews and other random stuff I've read online, but I'm not completely confident in it yet:

GIGABYTE GA-X48-DQ6 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model

2x ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
I've heard that the 4850 is great in crossfire. I might switch this from asus to any other brand of 4850, depending on rebates and combo deals. They all look about the same

Rosewill RX750-S-B ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91 750W Power Supply - Retail

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

The total comes out to about $1215. What do you guys think? I suck at this, so I'm mostly guessing as to making sure that I picked parts that will work well together. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention on that list my cheap and wholly unexciting cd drive salvaged from an old computer

just a couple thoughts

rosewill PSU kinda stink go for this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002&Tpk=ocz%2b700w
OCZ 700w gamexstream is rated one of the best and a good price after rebate.
EDIT* generaly OCZ, PC power and cooling, antec, corsair & seagate are the best.

What do you plan to OC the processor to becasue you probably dont need more than ddr2 800, so either get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227267
great ram great price

OR get the HIS 4850 combo with crucial ballistix tracers. the ram is free after the combo price and MIR

IF you are going to OC the proc you need a heatsink and fan. this is pretty much the best
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003
and the bracket
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128336

Lastly Id look at the gigabyte ds4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128336
its alot cheaper and all you lose are some sata ports, unless you need them.

ALSO - what about an OS, keyboard mouse, monitor, speakers?

Looks pretty good, but the Rosewill PSU sucks, try for a Corsair PSU, and I would get a smaller, faster HDD for your OS, 500gb sucks defragging..i'd also personally get 1x 4870 and get another when they drop in price

Thanks for the responses. I can get peripherals such as a monitor from my old computer. I've changed the psu. I think that I might go with the better ram so that I can eventually overclock later, once overclocking is needed.

The gigabyte ds4 looks great. I can go wtihout those sata ports, and it saves good money.

Thanks again for all the advice

You can overclock your Q9450 to 3.2GHz without overclocking the RAM that licid24 suggested at all. I second all of licid's recommendations, they seem quite sound.

Looks like this will be a good build - I hope you have a pretty decent resolution to take advantage of that graphics power!
