Hi, So I'm building a rig and want 3 GTX 280s ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3969465&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs ) and either one of these sound cards, don't care which as long as it fits alongside 3 gtx 280s ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006 ). Also, I'd like to run DDR2... DDR3 is an option, but only if absolutely necessary (and I mean ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, I really want to stick to DDR2)

Now, I've found 2 mobos I'm pretty sure support this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188024 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813141005 ) but some people said 3 big GPUs plus a sound card wont fit.

So basically, will either of these mobos support that setup? If not, can you please point me to one that does?

Thanks a ton.

I personally own that xfx board, and can tell you i have very little space left over after 2 gtx 260's let alne 3 gtx 280's. I would say its a safe bet that you can not fit the sound card with the GPU's

yeah as roadrunner said you will need to get a pcie 1x sound card becasue those 3x gtx's will take up the rest of the board.

Ah, gotcha thanks. So I'll try to find a PCI-E 1x sound card instead... will it fit with the EVGA 780i since the XFX wont support 3 GPUs? Or do I need a different mobo altogether?

Cool, but the 790i is a no go for me, I wanna stick to DDR2. I think I found a good PCI-E 1x sound card though... so will this mobo be fine with that card and 3 GPUs? It has sufficient slots, that much I know.

No you wont be able to use a sound card.

Look at the pictures. It has 6 slots total, evenly spaced. Your cards take up 2 slots each.

You wold be better off getting 2x 9800gx 2 for qoud sli. Cheaper, performs better, and gives room for soundcard.

Well ,I want a very good gaming experience so bad onboard sound isnt a good idea...

How about if I want to keep the triple gtx 280s no matter what, and want a good sound card that takes up any kind of slot? Will I NEED to go 790i (and DDR3... which I really, really dont want to waste $ on), or is there a mobo other than the 790i series that would work?

Also, if I do need to go 790i, which would you recommend?

Thanks.

The only board that Newegg has that will work for your needs is the one I posted. Maybe another site has something, but I think you nuts any how, and I'm not gonna waste time looking for you.

If you got that kind of cash get a core I7 next month, or get 2 cards and a Skullrail board.

You know what, first of all skulltrail mobo is garbage. So expensive for no reason at all.

Second, people have been saying nehalem will come out next month since like july... its not coming out till next year, and even then, that'll be the insanely overpriced version. So, noty.

It doesent have to be on newegg, and I dont want to jump to DDR3. But thanks for being a bitch about it.

Ok.
Your so dumb you cant even pick out a motherboard that will work. Good luck getting it running with 1 card let alone 3. LOL!
Your 3 GPUs are so expensive for no reason at all also. LOL you might get 10 more frame in what like 3 games?
Your the bitch, and a stupid one to.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_i7 Oct 2008, thats this month. It will be in the Vendors channel for sale on Nov 10th. But you dont care cause it requires DDR3 and you cant wait to waste $1500 on some defective GPU's.

Ok well this sucks, I cant find any 8GB DDR3 kit on the internets. And with the 4gb already being more expensive then 8GB DDR2, I dont even want to know how much it costs. I haven't won the lotto yet.

So seriously, is there a mobo that supports this and DDR2? Or maybe, and this is a longshot, but does the 790i also support DDR2?

Just looking at all the "please help" headers makes me want to cry.

Look at all this...****. Every single thread youve made on these forums, every single one of them about the same thing in the end, most of them are duplicates by you. Youve been given EVERYTHING you need to know and could possibly know from EVERYBODY on this website, from noobs and experts. Dozens of motherboard links, dozens of benchmark links, dozens of price/performance comparisons, dozens of options and pieces of advice. What the hell do you want from people, really?

The biggest deal about it all, is you constantly think people up here are just generally feeding you false information on purpose and baiting you down into a well full of ****.

Youre nothing but a troll, rearing your head to create these threads you know will end up in flames. Dickery has reached new heights here, gonna start reporting these threads.

**** it, I'm not getting ddr3, I'll stick to the 780i and get awesome speakers.

Now, how is the onboard sound? I don't even see anything in the description

Hi, so I've decided to go with the 780i series of mobos for my triple SLI gtx 280s. I found out that the only mobo with enough space for 3 of those GPUs And a sound card is the 790i, as the 780i apparently has 6 slots, and the gtx 280s each cover 2.

So, I was wondering what is a good motherboard in the 780i (or any mobo that supports triple gtx 280s and ddr2, if more exist) series? What am I looking for is one that fits 3 GTX 280s and comes with an integrated sound card

Thanks.

Edit: I'm also wondering, does the onboard sound card still take up a slot like an individual one would? In other words, would I still not be able to fit 3 GTX 280s with a mobo that has integrated sound?
