I have an older AGP based system with 3.2 Mhz P4 single core (I'm saving for a new rig but it is going to take me a long time) I currently have 7800 GS AGP. Should I grab a Radeon 3850 to tide me over? Think I will see any improvement in newer games like Mass Effect in particular? Thanks a lot for any thoughts.

Yes you will see quite a good increase, the chances are the P4 will restrict the card a little bit but i doubt you will notice it.
just means it could go faster with a better CPU. You will be able to play games with better frame rates though and the extra horses the card cant churn out in FPS due to the CPU can be put to use improving the image quality by turning up the AF and AA .

you said it's going to take you a long to save up for a new build, so why not save that $150 you plan on spending on a 3850 and save it for a new computer? that p4 you have is going to limit you severely in any new games coming out and the majority of current ones won't run as expected anyway.
