i have a hp compaq d530 ive had it sfor almost a year it has xp pro sp3 the master HD is a maxtor IDE and the slave is a maxtor SATA they have been fine together for the whole time ive owned the computer until about a week ago i went to access a program that was on D: [SATA] and it told me "the file the shortcut referred to could not be found" i opened My Computer and low and behold no D: drive so i p[pened device manager only 1 hard disk there so i restarted the computer and ran settings in BIOS its there proceeded to startup after settings [no changes] still only my master HD in both My computer and device manager i could really use some help... also i borrowed a HD also a maxtor but instead of SATA its IDE my BIOS see's it but windows does not could this be bad motherboard??

Register or log in to remove.

Check the jumper settings for the IDE drive.
Check that the cables are not loose.
Go in Disk management and see if it show there. If it does assign it a letter.

Try booting in safe mode and see if the drive shows up there.
