Would this PSU work on a 4870X2?

A 6+2pin means that it has the option to detach 2-pins to make the 8-pin connector into a 6-pin connector for video cards which use 6-pin connectors. So yes, it is an 8-pin connector. That's a great power supply, usually gets the same ratings in reviews as the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W(both got 9/10 from JonnyGURU for example), which is its main competitor. Taking mail-in-rebates into account the Silencer 750W is $15 more for basically an equivalent power supply, so stick with the Corsair.

60 AMP 12 volt rail on the Corsair is alot of power. Should be able to handle the 4870x2 no problem IMO.

The TX650W Corsair could probably handle it as well.

What are the power requirements for HD4870x2? Find that out. That will determine what you need.

I did alot of research on PSU before upgrading to HD4850 and every where I looked technical reviews raved about how well Corsair PSU units were. I am running a Corsair TX650W and I havn't experienced any problems at all with card system.

would work for an HD4870X2 , but definitely not two of it.
The power requirements for the X2 should be slightly less than than the 4870CF configuration putting it in the 650W range , CF X2 would probably need 850+
The pins are fine , 6+2=8 !

This is a very very good PSU. It will certainly work with one 4870x2. Not sure if it would with two. It probably would, but at a higher noise level.

Anyway, 2 x 4870x2 looks like overkill to me. There's no game yet that requires such a config, and if that game comes, newer and better video cards will be available by the time, which would make a 2 x 4870x2 config obsolete.
