I'm looking for some advice regarding a system build that I'm eyeing for upgrade purposes. My system is often used for Internet work or for Office-type applications, but the main selling point would be games. Specifically, I'm interested in single player RPG & strategy games, not MMPORGs; I'm also more into strategy & stealth games rather than shooters. (Think "Oblivion" & "Splinter Cell" over "Gears of War" or "UT3".

Proposed System Layout:

CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8400
Motherboard: Asus P5N-D
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX 2
Case: Antec Sonata III w. 500W P/S
RAM: Corsair 4 GB PC6400 (TWIN2X4096-6400C5)
HDD: 500GB Seagate Barracuda 3200.10
Video Card: Asus 8800GT 512 MB (Later on, I could upgrade by adding a second card in SLI)
Optical Drive: LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVD-RW Drive (SATA)
Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer

I already have a Sceptre 22" LCD monitor and I always use a generic mouse & keyboard set.

Questions? Comments?

GA-EP43-DS3L

With that promoId it's only $99. Also, you pay only GST, no PST, if you buy from NCIX and live in Ontario.

Diamond HD 4870, $300

Dump the sound card and use onboard audio, at least for a while until you decide if it's really worth buying the X-Fi.

At NCIX current prices, you pay $400 for GA-EP43-DS3L + HD 4870 instead of $400 for P5N-D+8800GT+X-Fi. It's a good deal.

Also, at NCIX, the Barracuda 500GB 7200.10 and the WD6400AAKS 640GB are about the same price.

Get the WD6400AAKS, it's bigger and faster.

The promoId is valid until July 15, btw.
