The amount you need to cut off the fan or heatsink would be a very very small amount. And the side fan really helps airflow. So get a side fan later if ya want. What you should do is measure the top of the CPU chip to the edge of the case. Then go to the Thermalright web page and look up the dimentions for that cooler. You'd have your own answer then, and be sure.
