My Tungsten E (Palm OS 5.2.1) has recently begun giving me the following
"Fatal Alert" error whenever I try using the "Find" function:

Emul68KMain.c, Line:403,
illegal instruction 40FC at
address 001051AC

Note that the illegal instruction and address vary from time to time.
The above values are typical. The line number appears to be constant,
though.

FWIW, it *seems* to be occuring while Find is scanning Documents To Go.

I haven't installed any new software recently.

Any ideas about what the cause might be and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had this problem. In the documents to go preferences menu, deslect the
"include in global find" box. Then documents to go will not be searched. Not
an ideal solution, but it stops the error.

Hi Bob – Heather from palmOne writing. Sorry to hear you are
struggling with your Tungsten E's find function. Check out the
following link for additional information and a possible solution.

Then search by Solution ID: 26202
Fatal Alert: Emul68KMain.c, Line:xxx...error when performing a global

Hope this was helpful.

Martin, Heather,

Thanks for the quick responses!

I'll try downloading and installing the latest release of Docs-To-Go.
I'll post back here when I have some results.

Per Heather Cullen's suggestion, I checked the PalmOne Knowledge Base,
found that the problem was probably caused by Word To Go, and that
DataViz had posted an update to their web site.

I downloaded the update (Docs-To-Go 6.008), installed it on my Palm, and
voila! - no more problems with Find!

Thanks, Heather, for your help!

What you'll find is that you cannot download the latest release unless you
are willing to pay for it.

There may be a fix for the TE, I know this same problem existed on the T3
and there was a patch to fix it. Other than that, Docs To Go requires that
you have the latest version in order to get support. Personally it ticks me
off. If the product you buy is faulty then they should be required to
provide a version that works as advertised.

I'm not sure why you had problems, but I didn't have any problems.

I was using Docs-To-Go 6.002 which, IIRC, came on the installation CD
that came with my Tungsten E.

When I went to download Docs-To-Go 6.008, all I had to do was enter the
name I used when I registered the 6.002 version, plus the activation
code I received when I registered. (I'm pretty sure I remember a link
that you could use if you were missing one of those pieces of information.)

After entering that data, the download for 6.008 started. No request
for a credit card, PayPal or anything else.

I've installed 6.008 and am using it to look at a Word file on my Palm
as I type this.

As I said, I don't know why you had problems, but I didn't have any.

6.008 isn't the latest version. It's the patch that's been out for a while.
Version 7 is now the latest version and you won't get support from DataViz
on Version 6.x.

I discovered a bug with Versamail and Docs To Go and the answer that DataViz
gave me was you have to be on the newest version to get support. I have
Version 6.008 and it does not fix the Versamail problem.

Ah. I understand now what the problem is. Thanks for the
clarification. Fortunately, I'm not in the same situation.

Hi, Tony. I was wondering what your bug was regarding VersaMail and
Docs To Go. I'm having an issue that causes the same Fatal Alert
information as the 'Find' issue the others are having but it occurs
during a Hot Sync operation. When I try a sync, I get the Fatal Alert
at the point in the VersaMail sync termed "Initializing VersaMail
Conduit..."

Is this similar to your issue and was the only 'resolution' moving up
to a new version?

TIA,
Tim

I had this. Reinstalling JUST Versamail solved my problem.

Hi Tim,

My problem had to do with trying to attach a document to a Versamail email.
If you try and do this from Versamail it activates Docs To Go but indicates
that there are no documents available to attach (even though I know that
there is). If you start from Docs To Go and use the Send command from the
main menu it seems to work OK. I suspect that this is because Versamail is
trying to access the original DTG in ROM and because there is an update
loaded on the machine it casues confusion.

Cheers
TC
