Very nice system but that PSU is seriously overkill even with crossfire. Something like the Corsair 750TX would be enough and you can find it for ~$100.

It's here but Buy.com usually has it a little cheaper

Are you certain that power supply would be sufficient for me? For starters I'm only placing a little GeForce 8500GX into this machine.

However, once my bank roll recovers from this order, I plan on putting Dual HD4870's into this baby.

In addition, I will probably add 2 - 4 hard drives to this machine.

Is 750 Watts going to be enough? A 500 Watt Power Supply is the minimum PSU needed to power just one of these beasts!

What do ya think? 1200 Watt PSU just overkill?

Yes, I am...

Off topic, but here is a question... Do the HD4870's come in the 1 Gig VRAM variety? The ones I saw were 512 Megs... I would love to get 1 Gig for future games.

PS Guys........ I am planning to Over-Clock this system once I have the money to invest in cooling. I understand that an Over-Clocked Quad Core CPU can suck up a lot of juice... Not sure how much difference that is going to make though

Originally they were supposed to be released as 1gb but (from what I read) there was a shortage of DDR5 so they released them as 512. I believe they are still planning on a 1gb version and in fact that's the one I'm waiting for. As for the PSU you could go with the 1200w just to be safe but I'm sure a quality 1000w like the 2 I linked would be more than enough even with several hard drives and overclocked. When companies say you need a certain amount of power that's for the whole system not just for that card so adding another card doesn't double the power requirements.

Just to help you save some cash, I know there are places to buy the OS for about $30 cheaper.

Check www.directdeals.com or even search through www.pricegrabber.com. I even checked ebay - that's what lead me to check out directdeals.com.

I also agree that that PSU is way overkill. I don't think you'd even need that unless you were putting in some ridiculous stuff. You'll just be generating tons of heat with that thing (and waste $$ and electricity).

I'd suggest the Western Digital 320 GB hard drive that uses only 1 platter. They are solid performers. They are just like the 640 GB hard drive that works so well, but instead of 2 platters, has 1.

Good luck with the build. Your choices look solid.
