Hey guys, i am done with putting together my phase change and i wanted to post some pics...
I still need to fill it with the refridgerant so i cant give you any results yet, but they are coming soon.
Here are some pics of the finished result

Excellent! Post frosty pics once you get it chilled.
I will, it will be so cool to see it covered in ice. (=

Responses too...?
Cool pics...let's see the benchmark screenshots, load temps, etc...
10 for "coolness" hopefully..hehe
1 for aesthetics
(still cool though)...enclose it somehow and paint skulls or flames or radiation warnings on it IMO. Are you gonna freeze your GPU(s) as well ?

At the moment this is only for CPU but in the future i will do it for GPU's to.
And like i said, im not completely done yet, and i was planning on putting it in a kick ass case.

Awesome!! That will bring some serious chill....
Exceptional job overshocked....like always

Yeah, im hoping to bring -50 and -30 at load.

Wooo thats going to bring some awesome overclockability. Is this your first phase change? How expensive and difficult was it? Next thing on my radar is water cooling never mind phase change lol
It really looks cool. It looks big too. If it works out which i am sure it will do you have a big enough case for it? Or are you using it just for testing your overclocking?
Your a brave soul. To many factors to consider when doing something like this. I hope it works out perfect for you.

Yep, this is my first.
I modded an ac into it so i got the parts REALLY cheap...
Compressor/condensor (came with ac)......$50
Tubing ........................................................$35
Braze...........................................................$50
Flex line/ braided copper..............................$100
Evaporator...................................................$15-20
-50c..............................................................PRICELESSS
Total.............................................................$250
This doesnt include tools and gas! Wich will ring up about another $200-250 (if you dont have them already)

Im going to use it 24/7. I was going to use an old computer case and put it in there. Then have the tube running over to my rig.

Not to mention im fillng it with propane.

For those of you interested in overshocked's hard work:

smart to use an ac man... +5
Thanks for the link royal crown. Very interesting to find out a bit more about how it actually works. Haha it's more complicated than I first thought.

Wow that does sound very cheap. I was thinking phase change is like $1000 or so. Good job!! Now hopefully it doesn't explode on you
wow shocked. u did as ur name implies.
Yeah, if you know what you are doing, phase change is all around us in the most obvious of places. Making it adaptive to PC cooling takes, well...some DIY to be blunt. Great job so far...keep us all posted.

That is a GREAT link to start from! That is where i started.
Yeah, i saved about $200 because i used an ac!

Yeah, that is why i hate people who water cool....Because u can get negative temps for the same price. Or less if you have fancy WC.

Yeah definetly takes some DIY.
But it has been really fun welding it all together so far. I havnt been able to work on it in the last week or so but i hope to get out there and at least leak test it today.

DEITY DAMIT!!!!!!
I ordered the wrong size schrader valves!!
now i have to wait another week for a new one to come!!!

ha. well done overshocked.
try not to blow anything up. ;p
Neon i swear i was about to take my torch and blow up all of my oxygen cylenders when i found out it was the wrong size!

Well done man! If not already done so, post this over at xs, more hard core OCers there imo.
I was planing on doing some thing like this, but my other projects (esp. the custom CPU water block) took/taking most of the time.

Yeah, howd ur waterblock go over in that competiton you were putting it in?
You think this would be a good thing to enter in something like that?

Competitions don't start till October and January.
As far as this project, yeah it would work for some thing like that.

nice, due to your avatar, I expect you to use kool aid as the liquid cooling solution.

Not a bad idea......hmmmmmm
Anyone know the thermal conductivety of koolaid?

sweet thanks.

I want TEMPS!!!!! Btw congrats, now hopefully it wont blow up on you.....
OvrClkr wrote : I want TEMPS!!!!! Btw congrats, now hopefully it wont blow up on you.....
Dude i know....i was crushed when i found out i had the wrong sized valves.......
I am going to have to wait til like teusday to get get them (SLOW @$$ SHIPPING)

Take your time, no rush.... Next week we will have Temps!!!!
OvrClkr wrote : Next week we will have Temps!!!!
Hopefully......
But like a wise man once said....
"delays happen"

Ohh don't say GOD DAMIT. You might offend someone.
Say Deity, as in one to worship for pleasure. It covers all faiths.
So, DEITY DAMIT! is much more acceptable..............
Hehe, jus' kiddin.
Hey, you may hate water coolers, but I bet your phase change is noisier by a fair bit...plus I was thinking of just putting the radiator in front of the AC..hehe..
I don't think sound will be an issue here, as long as he gets cold temps and mad overclocks he should be good....
royalcrown wrote : Hey, you may hate water coolers, but I bet your phase change is noisier by a fair bit...plus I was thinking of just putting the radiator in front of the AC..hehe..
Yep ( ; sound doesnt bother me one bit.
As long as i can run sub zero 24/7

overshocked at least ure better at brazing now
, hope all the joins are good as pinhole leaks are a pain to find. do you have a load tester or you going to test on a cpu?
richardscott wrote : overshocked at least ure better at brazing now
Yeah... i still need to test for leaks etc.
I am just going to test on the CPU. I wish i had a load tester, but i cant find where to get one and i have a feeling it will be mighty expensive unless i make my own.

oh ye u make ure own
u need a powerfull psu and some cartridge heaters and then the rest of the crap to mount etc
much easier to load test on cpu.
