New hard drive

i installed a new hard drive on my compag presario 2500 and installed windows xp and now i cant setup my network connection the network connection in my device manager has yellow question marks in it and when i do an ipconfig it comes up and say make sure youe not in MEDIA DISCONNECT STATE.

You have to install the drivers for your network hardware. Check the CD that came with your Compaq, or look for them at HP's website.

Yup, I made this mistake once, and wasted a few hours (including annoying a ISP Tech Support guy) for a while before I realized I had failed to provide Windows with all the drivers that came on the DVD disk with the mobo. The LAN port is just one of may devices on the mobo.
