Ok, here's the deal. I'm buying all new components and am reusing an old emahines w4682 micro atx case (mobo and all components fit and work fine). I bought a:
along with a qx6700 kentsfield, but the psu is bad......it is (was) a 250W bestec ATX-250-12e , and I need a psu that will fit specifically in this case (i.e, something with the same dimensions.) if you need any more specifications, please, by all means, do ask
Thanks!
I need at least 300w, but I would consider 500w a bit more.....
800w would make me a very happy person!

I would look at the coolmax 450b 450w (about $45 at newegg) with 14cm fan and adjustable knob for fan speed, if you want a quiet unit. Or check out the fortron fsp 400w units for about the same price. I believe your old emachines case will take any standard atx power supply. The large fans will help compensate for the lack of airflow in those small micro atx cases.
I have a ATX-250-12z(not e) and its normal size, i think the e is the same size too.
Check out the earthwatts PSUs from antec, they are quiet and work well.
the 430 watt should do fine(i guess you are sticking to the onboard video?). While i am playing a game and folding(75-80 percent cpu usage) on my Q6600 @ 3.0, 4870, 4 hard drive system i am still just over 300 watts at the wall

But if the case is a micro atx case, why would it take a standard size atx case's psu? Don't the smaller atx cases take smaller power supplies?
If a micro atx can take a standard atx power supply, how much power would a gtx 280, or an ati radeon 4780 add to the count? What specific wattage should I be looking for with the configuration I mentioned in my first post? Can you point me towards any specific power supplies (newegg preferable, although I buy from provantage when newegg disactivates an item)

Please help, I'm not all that good with psu's, I'm thinking something around 800w, maybe 700w, since all my builds (3 in all, this would be the fourth) have come with a preinstalled psu in the case of decent wattage (anywhere between 600-900w, I've never had to deal with this sort of thing, so please help.
Thanks again!

New cases that are not the micro size are cheap, buy one. Unless of course you really don't have the space.
Don't buy the 630i or any other Nvidia mobo unless you want aggravation or if you really want SLI. Also, don't buy any mATX mobo unless you are building an HTPC. If you are building an HTPC don't buy a Q6700. In any case, don't buy a Q6700 because you are wasting your money, get a Q6600. Don't forget a quality aftermarket heatsink.
You missed the sales, but the PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W is still on sale. It is a tad overkill, depending on the VGA, and won't fit a small case. It is cheap enough that any other cheaper PSU, that will do the job, won't save you enough money to be worth it.
Small saves no money and it holds more heat.
If you really want small CompuTronix is your best source of information.

Good Luck
Space does happen to be an issue, however, I'm not sure if I'm willing ( i may be) to give up my core 2 extreme QX6700 for a Q6600......what can I do??

Ok, I was able to find the dimensions for the psu that would fit inside this specific case from the atx site:
6" Wide X 3.5" Tall X 5.5"
Anyone have any luck finding a psu of at 400w (I want to get an external video card though, so I might need higher) with these dimensions? Price at this point is not an issue.
Thanks

Many microATX cases will take standard ATX PSUs, just not the longer ones.
And no, you don't want CoolMax. Except for a few of their bigger ones, that brand lives on tier-5 ("Do not buy" ) of the old listing at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] gs?t=anon. I read a review of one recently (hardocp? hardwaresecrets? I don't think it was jonnyguru...) in which a 430W CoolMax received a passing score for low-powered systems that don't need more than maybe 350W, but it was not good for its labeled outputs. Most cheap ones aren't.

I do hope you are going to OC that QX6700 (http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL9UL ).
Else it's wasted! (esp. with the unlocked multi!)
By the looks of that motherboard (630i) doesn't look like it's going to be OCed. . Even if you wanted to.
Mate, you are wasting that CPU.
Get a good motherboard (P45-DS3L)+ PSU (PP&C 610 or Corsair 550 or higher)+ cooling (XIGMATEK S1283). and OC that to hell.
Actually now that you mention it, is there any good MICRO atx mobos under $200 (I know, I know, I went cheap with the 630i, any good ones in micro atx form factor you recommend?)

If space is not a concern don't get an mATX mobo. Get the Antec 300, PC P&C 610, Q6600, P35/45 mobo and the XIGMATEK S1283 that shadow mentioned. Don't forget the XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 Retention Bracket. The Q6600 will OC very easily to 3G/1333, assuming you have RAM that will run at DDR2 667.
Keeping or buying the mATX case and getting an mATX mobo is a very bad idea.
Your right, he did say he bought it already didn't he. All stuffed into a junk emachines case.
Too bad he couldn't have come here first and saved a lot of money and grief.
Oh well.
I can always return it..........

If you can, then do. Get the parts that I have recommended and throw the emachines case in the trash.
It's an extremely long story, but the case itself has some sentimental value attached to it....... I'll follow the advice and get myself a new case, but this one I'm keeping...

That's the first time anyone has said an OEM case had sentimental value, but whatever makes you happy.
Yeah, well, nobody died or anything...although it's a long story, I'd probably be typing here till tomorrow morning......Thanks for the help anyway!!! I will use it, although I'll use the current build I mentioned before and stick in a q6600, I don't plan to oc....and I'll get a better (full size ATX, possibly antec 300, maybe 900, although that would be pushing it....) motherboard and case for use with my qX6700, and like Shadow said, "I'll OC that to hell"!
The Nvidia chipsets have stability problems, you would be better served by a P35/45 mobo.
Can you link to any specific motherboards using the p45 chipset on newegg? Anything under $350 (I decided to go full out on this rig, considering the extreme cpu and the full size atx case). Thanks, and hope you (or anybody else for that matter) can help!

If you want a super quite case, get the Antec 300. Otherwise the Antec 900 is a great choice. You can get enough fans in that case to start a tornado.
I dont have a link to a certain mobo but go with Gigabyte brand. Im sure someone will post here a specific mobo for you soon if you dont figure it out for yourself...
Any on this page will work well, the DDR2 ones that is. There are also Asus mobos that people seem to like. The DQ6 is the top of the line as you can see from the pricing.
What RAM are you using?

It's got support for up to 16gb ram. I use 64-bit windows xp pro, along with a dual boot 32 bit xp home (more support for external devices)
It takes DDR3, which is too expensive and not worth the cash right now. If you want that mobo, then this is the DDR2 counterpart GIGABYTE GA-EP45-EXTREME. Note the missing "T" after the P45.
