Hi and thank you in advance

my company is going to order some new dell optiplex 755 and from what i can tell they have a FSB of 1333/1066.

so we are going to order some new ram from newegg instead of paying the ridiculous amount of money they want for 4 gb (2x2gb) of ram. i was wondering

A) if anyone knew for sure if the mother board is 1333/1066

B) if it is 1333 if it is worth getting pc2 6400 or should we go with the 1066 ram pc2 5300?

cpu is a yorkfield 2.83 ghz
and these are for work (and are from dell) so we will not be overclocking them

the board definietly supports 1333Mhz, seeing as they offer 1333Mhz FSB cpus for that particular model. and as for ram speeds, i'm not sure you would benefit from the extra money PC8500 ram would cost. Unless you're gonna be using ram-heavy applications, PC6400 should be fine, especially since you're getting 4GB.

Agreed pc2 6400 is fine; the only reason to go with anything higher is for overclocking.

What makes this really interesting is with a FSB of 1333 (333 quad pumped) would 667 memory in fact be ideal as you will then be running @ 1:1 -->667*2(dual channel) = 1333mhz

Just a though...

^+1 if you aren't doing any overclocking and want to save a little bit of cash (im not sure how big the difference would actually be) then consider getting the ddr2 667

First off Dell optiplex 755 boards and Bios settings are baren of any memory or memory voltage settings. If you buy 1333 or 1066 memory unless the board recognizes the memory as 1066 it may or may not set it to that speed. More likely it will get clocked to 800 anyways. These are not customizeable systems. My company has both 755 mid towers and SFF 755's, the mid tower is made fairly solid but the SFF's are a design disaster. Go for the cheap ram and move on.
