No sound coming out of PC speakers

I built this computer in January and been using a USB headset to listen with, I never used PC speakers on it. Now my headset broke so I went to plug in my PC speakers and it doesn't work. I went into sounds and audio devices properties and it says there is no audio device. My mother board is a ASUS M2A-VM any one know how I can fix this?

Ive been trying to fix this all day long..... I'm done with at this point, I'm just going to buy a cheap $10 sound card off newegg. I believe that the on board audio is dead...
