Hello,

This will be my new system setup:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
HD: Samsung HD753LJ
Memory: 2 x OCZ 4096Mb Reaper (Total 8gb)
Soundcard: Creative Fatality X-FI Gamer
PSU: Corsair hx620w
OS: Windows Vista Premium 64 bit
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 245B+ (24 inch)

Mu question,

Should I go with a HD4870 or a HD4870x2 wanting to play on max. resolution which for the monitor is 1920x1200.

Thank you.

hehe aye , also depends how much your willing to spend , i decided to go for the 4870 as i couldnt be patient enough to wait for the 4870x2 also the cooling solution i want wont fit the x2 so ill go for 2x single ones as i dont fancy living with the stock cooling on the x2 given the noise lvls of the single solution , i luv thermalright gear and my machine is totally kitted out with it , only thing making any noise is the damn stock cooler on me 4870 :(
roll on the T-Rad asap

I'm running an overclocked Q6600 and 4870 on a 28" (1920x1200), and I could not be happier. It plays crysis just fine with all setting on high, 2xAA. But the 4870X2 should be a monster.

From all the reviews/benchies I've seen, the x2 is only about 15% more performance vs the 4870 in CF. Personally I'd suggest getting the 4870, it's cheap, great performance and should give you good results on 1920x1200 with most games except maybe Crysis until they send out a new driver.

Edit: Sorry meant to put 4870 in CF.

Excuse me, WHAT?! What benchmarks have you been reading? 4870X2 is basically two 4870s in crossfire in a single card, but built for better scaling, meaning you get at least 50% more power in most games (unless the scaling is bad or not supported). The 15% boost you're talking about is probably ONLY Crysis, which is a bad reason to base a purchase of your video card. For everything else, the 4870X2 engineering samples (which are basically like beta versions) were shown to kick serious ass.

samuraiblade, Im willing to spend what is neceserry to have a good system for a while, may be hard to believe but my current system lasted 3 years, except for the video card which is a nvidia 8800gt atm. Yes 2 single hd4870s in CF is also an option, but I read the x2 will be a bit more performance then CF. Thermalright, I ordered a CPU cooler from it, Thermalright HR-01 Plus, sounded like a great cooler to me, Adding a 120mm fan to it.

doomturkey, thanks for adding your experience with the single card. Is helpfull

Liderc, That sounds the same like a single vs 2 in CF then? Well I dont play Crysis so guess that wont be a problem.

MathiasScnell, Guess I should wait and read up more first on the X2 then.

Thanks for the inputs.

I've looked for reviews about the HD4870 X2. I couldn't find out if the X2's will have GDDR5 memory.
The HD3870 has GDDR4 memory and the HD3870 X2 has GDDR3 memory.
I suspect the price for the HD4870 X2 will be greater than $500 because retailers don't have to use the MSRP.
The HD4870 has a $300 MSRP but the retailer I purchased my card from charged $329. High demand increases price. It sucks retailers can charge more than the MSRP.
