a few days ago I was on the computer when a storm just cut off electricity. Now I think I want invest in a good battery backup for my computer, monitor, printer, TV, and maybe other things that may be valuable to me.

APC would be my first choice also. Tripp-Lite would be my second. I have used both successfully.
I would avoid Belkin for anything more complex than a LAN cable (even their spark plug wires suck, and don't get me started on their LAN hubs).

I have an APC unit and its great. There are many fine details that make it better then the competition.
