My memory stick has malfunctioned

When I plug in my memory stick I get a 'USB Not Recognized' message. It is listed as 'unknown device' in the device manager. It was OK yesterday. Any idea how to get the data off it? I've tried it on other computers & reinstalling the driver, but no joy.
