Hi there.

I plan to make my own PC case to fit my house's interior and I would like to have a quiet PC. I'm going to get fan less GPU and PSU. So I just need to get quiet CPU. I don't want to invest money into H2O cooling system.
Maybe there is a cool CPU that can be cooled by a fan less cooler?

PC case will be with open front and back, just covered with fence so the case will be like opened standard case and airflow will be ok.

I plan to use PC for AutoCAD modeling, some photo editing and watching Digital TV on it (DVD some times HD videos) and maybe some games on it like UT 2004.

Is there any CPU that fits my needs? Would be great to get a Dual Core CPU.
I thought about Intel Mobile CPU, like T7100, but I can't find any main board which is not for notebooks.

Thanks in advance ;)

I would say to do AutoCAD work, you need a powerful PC and hence a powered cooler, however, I believe a 45nm Intel part should be able to be kept cool enough at stock by the right heatsink so long as the area is VERY well ventilated.

I do AutoCAD modeling on my laptop with 2GB ram and T7100 CPU running on Vista with no problems - what student needs more? :)

45nm, hmm. . . Then E7200 should do the trick? Or maybe Q8200?

Well ventilated. Would it be enough non artificial ventilating in room with temperature ~22 C or I should make it artificial with some huge fan?
If so, is there any fan with noise level less than 10dB, coz thus with 18dB is quite annoying.

Welcome to the forums!

You can get one of these without fans. Make sure you check the temperature of your CPU. It should go over 70ÂșC at load.

Many of those monster sized fanless heatsinks may have trouble fitting into a micro atx case or motherboard, so do some measurements around the cpu socket area before ordering. Check the position of the capacitors around the socket area. Some folks have had to bend a cap or 2 to install the heatsink. I did some experimenting with the cpu vcore. I found that the lowest setting I could load windows with was .975 volts with my particular cpu. It reduced the cpu temps by 5 degrees celcius, which would help it run with a smaller heatsink. For dual core, newegg has the amd 2400be am2 for $40 oem with no heatsink. It uses 45 watts, versus 35 for my single core celeron. Combine that with a 780g motherboard, and you have a great setup.

Thanks for info. I'll try E7200 with fan less cooler, will see how it turns out.
The case I'll make on my own, so the size of cooler doesn't matter.

Dunno when I gonna finish it, case will take some time to be finished.

Fry's electronics stores has the e7200 retail boxed with ecs 7050 board for only $99.99 through Tuesday Sept 16th, if you live near one.

If you're going to make your own case it'd be cool if you could post some pictures up here- it's something I've always been intrigued to try if I had more spare time.

o1die, I live in Latvia - far from that store :)
mi1ez, I have a plan to make the case. Now I'm gathering info is that possible to get good PC to be silent. Also now I'm renovating my room + I have lessons at university, so not much time. But I hope to finish all in 2 - 3 moths, all till Xmas.
Of course I'll make a photo reportage. :)

Fanless cooler still needs fan. A lot of Dell desktop come with Fanless heatsink, but use air duct and 120mm case fan to cool that gigantic heatsink. I've seen that used on E6xxx and E4xxx as well as Pentium 4, but quads certainly can't be cooled properly, unless you're using AMD 9350e.

To actually go fan-less without water cooling, you'd have to go the extreme extent of copper pipes with large HS panels like the above case for example.
